Reface or Replace Kitchen Cabinets? Why We Recommend Replacement

At Nix Industries, we recommend full cabinet replacement for a kitchen remodel. New cabinetry lets us address the construction, storage, appliance fit and layout together, rather than leave the renovation working around the old cabinet boxes.
That is our recommendation for Nix projects. The aim is a kitchen that works better every day, with the visible details and the cabinet interiors developed as one plan.
What changes with replacement
Refinishing means painting or staining the existing cabinets. Refacing generally keeps the cabinet boxes but replaces the doors and drawer fronts and updates exposed surfaces. Full replacement removes the old cabinets and installs new boxes, doors and drawers. Nix recommends full replacement.
New cabinets create the opportunity to change drawer arrangements, cabinet sizes, appliance openings and storage locations. Start with the frustrations you want to solve: inaccessible shelves, awkward corners, crowded cookware or doors that conflict.
You can keep a good layout and replace the cabinets
Replacing cabinetry does not mean every appliance must move. If the general footprint works, we can plan new cabinets around it while improving storage and detailing.
Confirm the actual cabinet specifications, hardware, finishes, panels and trim. Broad labels such as stock, semi-custom or custom do not fully describe what you are buying.
Coordinate the surrounding work
Plan new countertops, backsplash, flooring and services alongside the cabinet package. Nix does not remove existing countertops for reuse; the remodel scope includes their replacement. A changed cabinet footprint can also expose unfinished surfaces that need repair.
Compare complete proposals that explain demolition, installation, surrounding repairs and exclusions. That makes it easier to understand why two cabinet prices differ.
For a Nix kitchen remodel, arrange alternate accommodation for construction, or at least the initial construction phases. We can help facilitate finding and renting a home if needed.
Bring photographs and a list of what you want to improve to a kitchen-planning conversation. We can start with how the new cabinetry should serve the room. Nix Industries works with homeowners across North Carolina.
