How Long Does a Kitchen Remodel Take? A Guide to the Whole Timeline

White cabinetry, a wood island and connected dining space in a completed Nix Industries custom-home kitchen.

For a Nix kitchen remodel, our starting timeline is 4–6 weeks of pre-construction planning followed by 10–16 weeks of construction, depending on complexity. Every project is different and can take less or more time.

The most useful schedule explains what happens before demolition, what controls installation and when you can expect to use the finished kitchen. We develop those milestones around your actual scope.

Planning comes before the kitchen comes out

Planning covers the layout, cabinet package, appliances, finishes, pricing and the preparations needed for construction. Confirming those decisions helps coordinate orders and the work behind the finished surfaces.

Product lead times need their own check. The 4–6-week planning range does not mean every custom or backordered item will be delivered within that period. We coordinate the start with the readiness of critical materials and required approvals.

Construction follows a sequence

The work generally moves through protection, demolition, structural or service changes, required inspections, wall repairs, cabinetry, countertops and final installations. Flooring and finishes are coordinated with the actual products and installation details.

A conceptual renovation sequence: plan and approve; protect and open; structure and rough-ins; inspect before closing; finishes and installation; final review and handover.

Countertop fabrication can depend on measurements taken after the cabinet arrangement is ready. That coordination can create an apparent pause even while the project is progressing. Design changes, concealed conditions or unavailable products can also affect later work.

Plan where you will live

For a Nix kitchen remodel, arrange alternate accommodation during construction, or at least during the initial construction phases. We can help facilitate finding and renting a home if needed.

Agree on the conditions for returning home and keep rental dates flexible until that milestone is sufficiently confirmed. A newly installed countertop does not necessarily mean the room is ready for normal use.

At the end, allow for final connections, testing, any required approvals and the walkthrough. Share your scope and timing priorities when discussing your kitchen remodel, and we can explain what would shape your schedule. Nix Industries works with homeowners across North Carolina.
